Hare Krishna Golden Temple (Banjara Hills) Timings: 4:30 AM to 12:15 PM and 4:30 PM to 8:25 PM
The Swayambhu Narasimha Swamy Temple on a small hilltop in the Banjara Hills, away from the clamor of traffic, is a spiritual haven. This temple, which has a long history, is managed by a spiritual community affiliated with the Hare Krishna Movement. When completed, the gold plating on this temple would make it the first of its kind in Telangana.
The deity worshipped here is Lord Shiva. Across from Lord Shiva, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha swamy can be seen here. According to legend, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha swamy arrived here to honor Lord Shiva during his penance by placing a conch atop his head. That is why the Shivalinga has a conch shell on it. As a result, he was given the name Panchajanyeswara. The Salagrama rock discovered in the Gandaki river near Muktinath, Nepal, can be seen in Lord Shiva’s sanctum sanctorum. It is claimed to be one of the world’s largest Salagrama rocks. Additionally, Radha Govinda, Japa Anjaneyaswamy, Garuda, and the venerable Narayana Salagram may all be found in this temple. The devotees are blessed by the four-armed Hanuman idol. Swami holds Shankha- Chakra in two of his hands and a rosary in the third & Akshamala in the fourth.
According to historical data, the Banjara Hills region was originally extensively forested. The locals constructed a tiny temple on the mound, and it is said that Akkanna and Madanna, ministers to the Nizam’s nobility, visited the temple to worship and later expanded it. At present, the temple grounds encompass 5 acres of open space, which is maintained by the Hare Krishna Organization and offers a wide range of services to its devotees. With its beautiful surroundings, the temple radiates a spiritual aura. The temple is open from 4:30 AM to 12:15 PM and again from 4:30 PM to 8:25 PM.
Along with the temple’s development, the organization is involved in a variety of spiritual and community service initiatives.
A program like Akshaya Patra to feed the destitute began here and gradually extended to other locations. Sri Prabhupada, the leader of the Hare Krishna organization, once said that no one should go hungry within 10 miles of this temple, thus they are doing their best to fulfill that wish. The organization’s Akshaya Patra, which was designed to prevent school children from being hungry, has grown throughout Telangana.
Hare Krishna Organization Hyderabad conducts special youth programs. Every Sunday, Bhagavad Gita self-empowerment conferences are held, and numerous events are aimed to inculcate societal values and self-confidence in the youth. It educates young people on how to apply Vedic knowledge to modern-day realities. Methods for improving one’s focus, memory, and self-control, as well as avoiding common pitfalls are taught here. People often talk about how to deal with setbacks in life and move on with self-confidence. Many facets of modern society are the subject of in-depth debates. These initiatives aim to empower young people to take charge of their own lives and develop into productive, responsible adults who can contribute to their country with pride.
Programs for spiritual education and cultural preservation are held in the villages under the temple’s aegis, including festivals celebrating local history and culture, folk training for youth, a “gift” for local homeowners, and more.
