Vanasthalipuram is a prominent residential area of Hyderabad city. It is 18 km from Hyderabad on National Highway 9 (Hyderabad to Vijayawada).
During the Nizam’s time it was called Shikar Ghar (hunting ground). Then this whole area was full of forests and forest animals. because of this the present name Vana (Forests) Stali (Place) Puram (Place) has settled.
Vanasthalipuram means Avasthalipuram once. In 1984 there were four colonies – Old Colony, Sachivalaya Nagar, NGO’s Colony and Self Finance Colony. A, B, C houses (quarters) have been allotted by the state government to the employees according to their income and job status (grade).

There is a deer park named “Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park” here for public entertainment. There are many deer’s, peacocks, other animals and many birds. Apart from that there are other big parks here. They are Rajiv Gandhi Park, Swami Vivekananda Park, Huda Park etc.
