Telangana state government has announced capping of prices for coronavirus diagnostic tests and treatment for COVID-19 positive patients in private hospitals after CM K Chandrashekhar Rao permitted private hospitals to test and treat the COVID-19 cases. The price announcement was made by the health minister Etela Rajender at a conference held with the medical authorities.
The charges at private hospitals are here as follows
- To conduct a single coronavirus test – 2200
- Isolation facilities for mild Covid-19 positive patients – 4000
- For Covid-19 positive patients who need an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities – 7500
- For critical Covid-19 positive patients who need ICU and Ventilator support – 9000
Health Minister Eatala Rajender clarified that these charges are separate from the cost of antiviral drugs that the private hospital will administer to the coronavirus patients.
All hospitals have been instructed by the authorities to perform tests only on those who have COVID-19 symptoms. As COVID-19 positive cases were increasing in Hyderabad and other districts of the state, CM KCR had taken the decision to permit the tests in private hospitals to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state by conducting more tests. The state officials were directed to conduct COVID-19 tests on 50,000 people in 30 Assembly constituencies in 5 districts in and around Hyderabad within the next 10 days.
