GATE – Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an all India examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bengaluru and seven IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) on the behalf of Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India. It is considered as the screening test for post-graduate engineering admissions and entry-level engineering jobs in the public sector undertakings. Generally, every year, the exam is conducted in the month of February and is a computer-based test with 3 hrs of duration. GATE is conducted in 25 disciplines such as aerospace engineering, biotechnology, chemistry, physics, statistics, mechanical engineering and so on. The aspirants can appear appropriately to the discipline of their graduation degree or choose any paper that plans to pursue in their post-graduation.
Eligibility Criterion for GATE
- No age limit.
- No minimum pass percentage in the qualifying exam.
- Must have completed or been in the final year of bachelor’s degree.
- Indian national along with international aspirants from Nepal, Singapore, Bangladesh, UAE, Sri Lanka, and Ethiopia.
GATE is considered as one of the toughest exams in the country. The notification of the GATE exam is released almost 5 months before the exam date. The application has to be submitted online and the payment for SC/ ST/PwD category candidates is Rs.750 and for all other candidates, it is Rs.1500.
