Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Park popularly called KBR Park by the locals of Hyderabad. The park is located in the middle of the Hyderabad city – Jubilee Hills with a vast spread of rich fauna and lush greenery. Even though surrounded by the concrete buildings and chaotic traffic, the park promises rejuvenating nature, breathtaking atmosphere, running track and a lot to adore. KBR park is a part of the everyday schedule of the people who are residing in the vicinity of the Banjara hills and Jubilee hills check post. The park is named after popular leader and the former chief minister Kasu Brahmananda Reddy and is spread over an area of sprawling 390 acres which is often described as jungle amidst the concrete jungle.
KBR park is divided into two zone – conservation zone where entry is restricted; visitors zone where tourists entry is regulated. Under the Andhra Pradesh Forest Act, the KBR park was once known as the Jubilee hills forest. In 1998, this place was declared as the national park by the state government after the approval from the central government. The park has around 600 different species of plants and trees; equally rich fauna, 140 species of avian fauna, 20 species of mammals and 20 species of reptiles. The KBR park even has some historical significance as it lodges Chiran palace, built in the year 1940 and was given to the then Hyderabad Nizam – Prince Mukarram Jan on his coronation by his father prince Azam Jah in 1947.
The Chiran palace is a modern facility more like a villa in the modern terms constructed on 6,000 sq meters of land that was designed to serve the needs of the prince. Apart from the Chiran palace, the park hosts other properties such as Mor bungalow, Gol Bungalow, stables for horses, elephants and cattle, wells and water tanks, motor khana that houses a fleet of exquisite vintage cars, petrol pump, etc. One can get to spend time in spotting rare birds, walk alongside peacocks, breathe some fresh air and relax.
The best thing to do in the park is to go for a nature trail around the park that takes almost 2 hours which is ideal for kids and adults who love to spend time outdoors and enjoy the beauty of nature. There is a watchtower of 30 feet built in 2012 which gives a bird’s eye view of the park. To educate the visitors, the government organizes nature camps to educate the visitors on curbing pollution, biodiversity and minimize the use of plastic. The KBR park is heaven for all the fitness enthusiasts with an exclusive 7 km long walking track, inner mud pathways for walking and jogging through the greenery, there is an open gym with air swings and twisters for cross-fit trainers. A perfect place to catch the sunrise and practice yoga.
The park is located on Banjara hills road no. 2 and the important landmarks close to KBR park include Jubilee hills check post, LV Prasad Eye hospital, TDP party office, Annapurna studios, Park Hyatt hotel and Peddamma temple.
