Neera Cafe, located on Necklace Road in Hyderabad, is the first state-run cafe in the city that specializes in selling and processing neera, an unfermented nectar extracted from the palmyra or Indian date palm trees. Here’s all you need to know about Neera Cafe.
History:
In July 2020, the Telangana government announced plans to develop a project to promote neera as an energy drink, with the brand name “Neera Cafe” at Necklace Road. The foundation stone for the first Neera Cafe in the state was laid on July 23, 2020.
On May 4, 2023, Neera Cafe was opened to the public. It was built at a cost of Rs 20 crore on Necklace Road.
Products:
The cafe serves neera in 300 ml packaged bottles priced at Rs. 90 each. The nectar has to be maintained at less than 4 degrees and is best consumed within four days. The cold chain system is developed to prevent the nectar from fermenting during procurement, transit, or preservation. The technology is developed and transferred by the Kasaragod-headquartered ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) in Kerala.
Neera is an unsweetened sugary drink that is highly nutritious, containing magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, protein, sugar, and vitamin C. The drink has become popular among fitness enthusiasts and health-conscious individuals due to its health benefits.
Benifits of Neera:
Neera, also known as palm nectar or palm toddy, is a sweet and translucent drink that is extracted from the sap of various species of palm trees such as date palms, coconut palms, and palmyra palms. Here are some potential benefits of consuming Neera:

Helps in liver function: Neera is known to remove acetaldehyde, which is a toxic metabolic product of ethanol causing liver damage, making it a potential aid in the treatment of liver diseases.

However, it is important to note that consuming too much Neera can have negative consequences, such as liver damage, and that it may not be suitable for everyone. It is always best to consult a healthcare professional before making any significant changes to your diet.
